Acting on Competitor Changes

A competitor price or stock change is a signal to review, not an instruction to react. Use this short process to understand what was recorded, put it in your shop's context, and choose a measured next step.

01

Start with the record

Confirm what actually changed.

Before deciding what the change means, compare the current recorded result with the previous result for the same saved competitor product. Ask a few concrete questions:

  • Was the change in price, stock, or both?
  • Is the product, variant, currency, and source page the one you intended to review?
  • When was the check run, and what was the earlier readable value?

A readable difference is something to investigate. It is not, by itself, proof of why the competitor changed it or a reason your shop must match it.

02

Read the supporting details

Inspect the evidence and source context.

Open the saved result and review the available visual evidence summary, product-page details, check time, detected values, and source URL. Use the source page to check the context around the value: a sale, a variant, a temporary stock message, or a different product can change how useful the signal is.

Readable and confirmed

The relevant value and its comparison are clear enough to review further.

Missing or ambiguous

Treat the value as unknown when the page is unavailable or the result is not clear. Do not turn an unknown value into a claimed change.

Rookrace records what its check can read. It does not provide a screenshot of the full competitor page or explain the competitor's business decision.

03

Bring your own constraints

Put the signal in your shop's context.

Your best response depends on facts Rookrace cannot know for you. Consider your margin and costs, available inventory, demand, delivery promise, cash flow, current promotions, and how your offer is positioned. Also ask whether the competitor's change is relevant to the same customer and product choice.

A useful decision question

“Given my stock, margin, customers, and current plan, what would improve my position without creating a problem elsewhere?”

04

Choose deliberately

Pick a next step that fits the evidence.

There is no guaranteed response to a competitor move. Choose the smallest useful action that fits your evidence and constraints, then decide what you would need to learn before changing course.

Observe for now

Keep the change in view and wait for more evidence when the signal is small, unclear, or outside your current priorities.

Check your own offer

Review your price, availability, margin, delivery promise, and product positioning before comparing yourself only on price.

Improve the offer

Consider whether clearer product information, a better bundle, or a stronger service promise would help your shop compete.

Try a limited response

If it fits your numbers and plan, test a time-bounded change rather than assuming a permanent reaction is necessary.

Waiting is a valid choice when the information is incomplete or a reaction would put your shop under unnecessary pressure.

Rookrace today

A record to review, not an autopilot.

In the current beta, you can save competitor product URLs, start manual checks, and review saved results with readable price and stock changes. Rookrace may add in-app alerts and advisory daily-action suggestions from those checks. Recurring monitoring, automatic repricing, automatic inventory changes, and taking business actions for you are not available.
